Healthy Lifestyle Workshop

Designed and led by Claire Steels (Double World Duathlon Champion).

The Primary Healthy Living & Nutrition Workshop is broken down into three elements:

  • Nutrition
  • Activity & Exercise
  • Decision Making

At primary school, children need a basic understanding of the importance of a healthy balanced diet and what types of food they should be eating. This workshop will include:

  • A basic introduction to the different nutrients that we get from food.
  • The Primary School will look at what should be in their lunch box and the balance of healthy food and treats.
  • The importance of breakfast and how it can affect the school day.
  • What happens to the body if we don’t get a balanced diet into our body and how it can make us feel and act.

Activity & Exercise

  • Introducing activity into daily routine.
  • The different ways of body movement and how this can progress into different sports.
  • Different activities for the students at school & home.

Decision Making

All elements of the workshop are interactive which maintains engagement and interest. These elements will also require teamwork, something crucial across all Mintridge programmes. The timescales can be altered and are very flexible to suit the requirements of the school.

Claire is also able to speak about her sporting experience with Team GB (Duathlon) and offer an inspirational side to her day at school as well.

Resources are supported by AHDB & Food – A Fact of Life

What can be included?

The Mintridge Ambassador can spend a day/two days/full week with your Primary School. The workshop can also include an inspirational presentation, a Q&A session, 1 on 1 sessions or tailored coaching clinics. The Ambassador will be on hand to make presentations, offer advice, pose for photographs and sign autographs throughout. A programme will be created for the students to work towards following the workshop on their diet and activity plans. Approximately six weeks later, the Mintridge Ambassador will return to school to monitor the progress that has been made with all of the students.

The Ambassador will be accompanied by a Mintridge representative. If coaching is chosen, discussions will be held leading up to the event regarding the personnel and staff requirements from the school. We strongly recommend small group learning to maximise what each student gets out of the session.
