On Thursday 13th July, Director of Netball at Severn Stars VNSL and Mintridge ambassador Pamela Cookey made her way to the wonderful Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School in Gloucestershire for the school’s annual sports awards.
Upon arrival, Pamela was greeted by the school staff and taken through to the school hall where she would be the Guest of Honour for the awards. It is safe to say that there is a huge array of sporting talent at the school, as Pamela presented various colours, shields and trophies to all year groups for the first part of the evening. Sports ranged from the traditional netball (this pleased the Ex England Captain), hockey and rugby through to judo, equestrian and handball. Well done to all that won an award, it appears that you were fighting off stiff competition. The Mintridge team particularly liked the video link to one winner that was unable to make the evening – Sports Personality of the Year eat your heart out!
For the final formal part of the evening, Pamela took to the stage to deliver a short presentation on her incredible sporting journey from her school days, through to linking her passion for sport and business today. Pamela wanted to leave the students, staff and parents alike with key messages surrounding resilience, pressure and most importantly of all, enjoying what you do. Before closing for the evening, she opened the floor to questions (of which there were many fantastic ones):
“Who have been your hardest opponents?”
“Who inspired you to play netball?”
“What was your fitness regime while playing?”
Students did not shy away from the camera, and they were quick to join the 114 capped player at the front of the hall for photos, autographs and to ask many more questions before Pamela departed for the evening. Of course, KLBS students requested the obligatory selfie and enjoyed the giant twitter frame as well!
Thank you very much to the staff at school for your wonderful hospitality throughout the evening, Pamela had a fantastic time and was inspired by the sporting talent amongst students.
Photos and the video from the evening are available with school staff should you wish to see them.
