On Monday 8th January, Surrey Storm Wing Attack and Mintridge Ambassador, Georgia Lees travelled to Pocklington School in Yorkshire to lead the school’s preseason netball programme.

Enthusiastic U12 and U13 girls were there to greet the Super League star as she kick started the programme. Refreshing everyone with key netballing skills for the new year, Georgia focussed on ball skills and movement for this session. Georgia encouraged the girls that the drills can be taken home with them. For example, simple passing and catching sessions against the wall to improve coordination can be done as a solo session in the house. The two hour session flew by and it was soon time for photos and autographs – the most important part!

The next session was with the U14 and U15 squads, and on this occasion, Georgia turned her attention to the school’s request of effective marking and blocking. Georgia gave fantastic one on one advice to each player that they can really look at in their personal match play. It was encouraging to hear how much individuals had taken on board when questioned by Georgia at the end of the session. Well done girls!

After a short break for lunch, the seniors were awaiting Georgia’s session on effective set plays, at the request of the school staff. Georgia focussed particularly on centre passes and the positioning of individual players. The girls took the positional and movement advice on board and we look forward to hearing how it is implemented in their first match of the season this weekend.

The final session of the day for Georgia was a staff inset session where she was able to give the Pocklington coaches a few session ideas for the season ahead as well as clarification on a few of the rules including the dreaded REPOSSESSION rule!

Each squad worked incredibly hard throughout the day, thank you to everyone involved. Thank you very much to Miss Hornby and the Pocklington staff for welcoming the Mintridge team to lead your preseason programme.

Your school staff will have the album of photos as well!

Good luck with the term and we can’t wait to follow your progress. #BackingBlue
