On Friday 2nd February, Surrey Storm Netballer and Mintridge Ambassador, Georgia Lees travelled to the Brooke Weston Academy in Corby to lead a morning of netball with Year 9 players from across the entire Brooke Weston Trust. Georgia is fully immersed in her Pre Season Vitality Super League preparations at the moment, ahead of Storm’s season opener against Wasps next week and therefore she had plenty of hints and tips for the budding netballers throughout the day.

The morning began with a short introductory presentation from Georgia to the squads, Georgia shared her journey into netball as well as the dual career in health that she has alongside. The girls listened intently to the incredible insight from Surrey Storm’s Wing Attack before taking to the court themselves for the first session of the day.

Georgia led a dynamic warm up with the students before looking at various passes; Georgia broke individual passes down to look at different techniques that would lead to greater accuracy and power. Great improvement was seen by all the girls. Many of the drills are able to be done at home and therefore, there were some great pointers for the girls to be able to do in their own time, notably the partner wall work sessions.

The second session of the day, looked at movement around the court with a particular focus on ball placement. Georgia created drills that gradually introduced defenders to create an environment as close to a match as possible.

The morning flew by and it was soon time for a well-deserved lunch break. We couldn’t leave without Georgia enjoying her favourite part of a Mintridge day…and that’s the photos and autographs for everyone to take away with them. The Twitter frame was a highlight for many!

Thank you very much to the Brooke Weston Trust staff for your hospitality throughout, and we look forward to following the netball results over the coming months, in addition to the progress as you come together as a Trust squad.
