Claire Steels
Sport: Duathlon

Claire grew up in Lincolnshire where she attended Bourne Grammar School and enjoyed many sports, including athletics, hockey and netball. Claire has always been a competitive runner, both on the track and in the cross country field, despite concentrating on hockey while at university.

At the end of 2014, Claire decided to try something new and bought a road bike, with the view to trying a Duathlon, a multisport event in a run, bike, run format.

In early 2015, in only her second race, Claire qualified to represent Great Britain at the World Duathlon Championships standard distance race in Adelaide, Australia in October 2015. A few weeks later, Claire qualified for the sprint distance in Adelaide and also for the European Championships in 2016. Since qualifying Claire has concentrated on training for the sprint distance and has raced all over the country, claiming many victories. The majority of her training takes place in the Peterborough and Bourne areas.

Alongside an intensive training programme Claire runs her own fitness and personal training business based at Premier Fitness in Peterborough. This is also the site for Claire’s strength and conditioning work and her studio cycling, both of which contribute to her duathlon training schedule.

When Claire travels to Australia in October, it will be her first international race and a great opportunity for her to enter the world of elite multisport.
